Listen: sssss. What makes that sound? A snake! A tire losing air! Put your hand on your chest and hiss: feel the air leaving your lungs? Today we meet the letter that makes that sound. When you see this curvy letter, it says /s/.

Teach it
- 1Say /s/, the sound (not the name ess), like a hissing snake. Show s and S. Kid says /s/ and traces s.

- 3Letter hunt: kid finds s and S on a cereal box and says /s/ for each. Then reads the letter line below.
