Pip is a pup. Mom and I got Pip in the van. At the vet, Pam met us. Pam is the vet. She sat Pip on a mat. Pip did not sit! Pip got up and did a hop. Hop, hop, hop!
Pam held Pip, and Pip sat. Pam set a disc on his rib. Lub-dub, lub-dub! His pump is fit.
Is Pip sad? Not a bit. Pip got a pat and a hug. Pip is a fit pup, and I am glad.
What did Pip do when Pam sat him on the mat?
He did not sit; he got up and hopped. A good answer uses the story words “hop, hop, hop.”
What is the “Lub-dub, lub-dub!” in the story?
The sound of Pip’s heart. The disc Pam set on his rib is the end of a stethoscope, a listening tool. “His pump is fit” means his heart is healthy.
The story calls Pip’s heart his “pump.” Why is that a good name?
The heart pumps (pushes) blood all through the body, the way a pump pushes water.
Have you been to a checkup? What did the doctor or nurse check?
Any true memory: heart, breathing, ears, height or weight. A good answer names one thing and how it felt.
